January 24th, 2010

Here is a Photoshop picture that was required for a Digital Illustration class I took that involved making a collage of several photos. We thought it turned out pretty darn cool, and thought we would share it with you. Hope you enjoy as much as we do.

In The Blink of an Eye

Here is some awesome reading about editing. If anyone is aspiring to be a great editor, you have to learn about Walter Murch. Walter Murch has edited a many number of great films and won many award with his editing such as Apocalypse Now, The Conversation, The God father, The English Patient…etc. He has been pioneering the way of editing for years now and setting what seems to be an impossible standard. More importantly than good editing, Walter goes into the physiology of the human mind and why editing works. We must first understand the human mind in order to produce great work. I highly recommend you read this book whether you are and editor or want to break into the film industry. So do yourself a favor and read it…or we will come to your house break your windows. No just kidding…James will go to your house and break your window.

The Elipsis Car Commercial

November 16th, 2009

Well its time to start working with miniatures. We have a fun little project we are working on using toy cars from Wal-Mart and a small green screen. We were assigned to make a 30 sec promotional ad about what ever we wanted…so why not have some fun with it! Our plan is to use lots of particles and grid patterns to make a very unique digital/sci-fi look to the ad. It should be very over the top but we are starting to see much more of that one TV these days; so why not try it ourselves.

The New SPS Films Hats

November 14th, 2009

The first SPS hat finally came in and it looks great. It’s definitely a really cool feeling to finally see our company logo on a hat. There were a few errors we need to fix for a bigger batch next time. The front logo was a bit bigger than we expected, so we will scale that down by half next time and second, the back logo need to be positioned a little bit lower. All in all it looks great and we look forward to the next set.

A Successful Screening

November 12th, 2009

Well we had a very successful screening of our upcoming film “The Titan Project.” James Lyons found a few overlooked technical errors that we missed in the editing process. So its back to timeline.

One really important thing to do is to get professional feed back. Most of the time it hurts to hear the criticism, however, if you can learn to suck up the new and use those notes your end result will be much better. If you’re a new film maker this will be one of the hardest challenges you will face because you put so much passion and time into your work, it will feel like all anyone notices, was the bad things. On the other hand, most people you ask to view your work, they will tell you it looks amazing and later tell someone else that it was alright but there were lots of error; and lets face it, this really does us no good as filmmakers. So do yourself a favor and find some good people that will tell it to you straight, the good and the bad. Your films will thank you!

On another note, the first new shipments of T-Shirts have been shipped and should be here shortly; we are all looking forward to that. So if you are interested in purchasing to awesome SPS Films shirts stay tuned because there are almost here!

The Titan Project Movie Trailer

The Titan Project Movie Trailer

Good news the movie trailer is almost done. We are back on track and making the finishing touches on the trailer. There will be a screening tonight by our good friend James Lyons and his wife Lindy, which will hopefully provide so valuable criticism on any errors that may have been over looked.  This has been long over do but the end result should be very worth it. My thoughts on this project have been, if it’s not perfect, keep working on it.
